Tom Umstattd, CPA
Tom has been in public accounting since 1980 when he received a B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin. He became certified in 1983 and began his own accounting firm. After working 5 years in Houston, this native Austinite returned home. His memberships include the American Institute of CPAs, Texas Society of CPAs, and Austin Chapter of TSCPA. Tom is president of VPCI, serves on several boards, and is a co-founder of the Austin Rhetoric Club. He is a committed believer and church member. He has been happily married to Ginger since 1979 and they have 5 children.
Cynthia Umstattd, CPA – Staff Accountant
Cynthia worked for several years as an intern. Since earning her B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, she has served as a full-time tax preparer and bookkeeper. Cynthia earned her CPA license in May 2018. She is a committed follower of Jesus.
Aaron Lerma, CPA – Staff Accountant
As the newest member of the team, Aaron Lerma began working for Tom Umstattd, CPA in 2014 as a tax preparer. He received his B.B.A from Thomas Edison State College in 2008. Aaron earned his CPA license in November 2015.
Nathan Schneider – Tax Preparer
Nathan has worked with us for the past 2 years. He started as an office intern in 2018, handling filing and calls. He received his B.B.A from Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2019, and joined our staff full time in 2020 as our newest tax preparer.
Andrea Hayes – Office Manager
Andrea serves as the Office Manager as of June 2020. She has her Bachelor’s Degree from East Texas Baptist University and has a background in administrative support, financial advising, and teaching. In her free time she enjoys cooking, singing, exploring new places, and learning Spanish.
Lorraine Mahan – Office Assistant to the Tax Preparers
Lorraine Mahan serves as an Office Assistant to the Tax Preparers. Lorraine’s resume includes working as a legal assistant and as a teacher. She has 4 grown children and 7 young grandchildren. She enjoys family time, piano, gardening, and talking with friends.
Tracy Henkel – Administrative Assistant
Tracy has worked with us for over ten years. She started as an office intern in 2009, handling filing and calls. Now she handles our Administrative needs, IT, in house bookkeeping, and Accounts Payable. Tracy has been happily married to Travis Burstall since 2014.
Karen Turner – Office Manager

Karen had an Associates degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Technical Management, and a Master of Business Administration. In the past 10 years, Karen has worked as an office manager for a CPA firm in Austin. She was fortunate enough to have a work family that were not just colleagues, but also very dear friends. Karen also leaves behind many friends she considered family. In Karen’s eyes family was not created by blood but rather by love. She will be deeply missed, but the impact she left on the hearts of those she loved will live on forever.
